January 2006 |
| The dream continues. The year 2006 promises to be a major change for indoor skydiving at Flyaway. The year begins with ownership being under the control of Robert Ogle. Robert and his company Touch The Sky LLC acquired the facility from Stalworth Investors Inc. in late 2005.
Stalworth Investors owner Gary Speer had operated Flyaway for more than 21 years. Speer is pleased to see Robert advance to the position of owner. Robert began his tenure with Flyaway as a wind tunnel instructor while attending high school. Robert worked part time during school and worked full time during the busy summer tourist season. Following his high school graduation he began attending the University of Tennessee and continued to work at Flyaway as a Shift Manager. He interrupted his college studies to join a select Flyaway crew that was recruited to help train and open the first vertical wind tunnel in Europe in 1990. Robert spent a year in Switzerland at Airodium AG, a wind tunnel facility near Zurich.
Returning from a year abroad Robert resumed college and completed his degree. Then in 1995 Robert was hired as manager for the new Flyaway facility in Las Vegas, NV. He spent the next three years in Las Vegas, His work there contributed to the tunnel early success. The years that followed saw him return to Pigeon Forge as Manager followed by another assignment as Las Vegas Manager thru early 2005.
In the 1980’s Flyaway adopted the slogan, “Achieve The Dream”. According to Speer it was a reference to mankind’s universal dream of flight. Flyaway has allowed that dream to be achieved by tens of thousands since our beginning and Robert and his staff are continuing the experience. |

December 2005 |
| Not a view from the top but rather a view from underneath as 6500 pounds of new Caterpillar diesel is craned down into the engine room. This new diesel replaces one installed in late 1998. The Pigeon Forge Flyaway first opened in 1983 with the wind tunnel being powered by a Cummins Diesel. Dealer support and a superior product resulted in Caterpillar being chosen when the Cummins was due for replacement.
This month´s engine swap began after closing hours on Sunday Dec. 4th. The tunnel reopened for flyer activity on Friday Dec. 9th. Many thanks to Buddy Phillips of American Generator, Knoxville, TN for managing the new engine installation in five long, busy days. |

December 2005 |
| As year 2005 draws to a close Flyaway owner Robert Ogle and Gary Speer assist in the removal the Caterpillar diesel motor. After nearly 13,000 trouble free hours of powering the flight chamber, Flyaway is getting a factory new diesel. The tunnel was closed for five days to allow for removal of the old motor and various systems and installation of the new Cat. The first week in December was chosen to be the least disruptive to flyer activity. |

May 13, 2005 |
| Eric Shults and Rebecca Holbrook were married May 13th in Pigeon Forge, TN. The twist is they did it in a wind tunnel! The air was turned down for the ceremony. After the “I do’s” and kiss it was TIME TO FLY! Nothing says I love you like 120 mph wind. |

Flyaway Indoor Skydiving is please to announce it's continuing contribution to the Knox Area Emergency Food helper's 13th Annual Hunger Hike. This organization depends on community support to stock their pantry shelves, which in turn feed thousands of people throughout the community every day. This is the 2nd year Flyaway has contributed by donating Flight Tickets, which then are given as prizes to contributors of the hike. We are also proud to announce or participation with the non-profit organization The Family Guidance Training Institute. This organization provides training throughout the community to help build strong and knowledgeable families. Also, a great big "Your Welcome!" to the United Way. We recently were able to contribute Flight Tickets to a CYO Fundraiser and received a very nice "Thank You" in return. |
